What is hosting?

When your website is complete it has to be uploaded to a web server which is a computer that is connected to the Internet in order for it to be viewable by everyone. This server is owned by a hosting company who will charge an annual rate for storing your website.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is a unique name that identifies your site so that others can access it. For example, www.mysite.co.uk. In order to obtain this for use with your website, you have to register your domain name. There is an annual fee for this which is usually around £3.50 for a .co.uk domain or £5 for a .com domain depending on the fees of the company you purchase your domain from - often the same company which provides your hosting.

When selecting a domain name remember to make it relevant to the name of your company. It should preferably be easy to remember and not too long to minimise typing errors by potential customers.

How can I tell if my domain name is available?

Most companies that sell domain names will have a facility to allow you to check if your chosen domain name is available. Alternatively you can search on the ’who-is’ website.

When would I need to pay for the website design?

No payment is necessary until a mock-up of the home page has been provided and the final design is agreed. Then a deposit of £15 or 10% - whichever is the greater - is required. Full payment is required once the design is complete.

What if I cancel my order?

You can cancel your order at any time up to the point when you pay your deposit. A deposit is required after a mock-up has been produced, and a design layout is agreed, and prior to proceeding with the complete website. You can still cancel after this point, but you will forfeit your deposit. This is to cover the costs involved in producing the mock-up of the design.

Are there any ’hidden’ costs?

No, when we provide a quote, we will detail all that is included in the design. You also will be advised whether the quote includes domain name registration and hosting. If these are provided, the quote will cover these costs for one year and you will be provided with an estimate of what these would cost in following years.

How long will it take for my website to be online?

There are too many factors affecting the timing of a website design to provide an easy answer to this. These factors include the size of the website, and the number of added functionalities. Should timing be crucial we would certainly do our best to meet your requirements. We will of course indicate in the final quote, prior to your acceptance, what the expected completion date will be.
